We get picky here. Most shops, whether they be quick lubes or transmission shops offer 2 styles of transmission fluid change.
- The power flush– With this technique the connect a powerful machine to your vehicles transmission cooler lines. This machine forces new fluid through the transmission. This is a very controversial technique in the auto maintenance world because some suspect that these machines over pressure the transmission and stir-up dirt and debris from the pan which then enters the transmission’s internal workings. We do not like this technique for another reason also. Usually companies who do it this way do not change the internal filter. To us this is unacceptable.
- The Pan Drop– This technique is the most common by far. This is where they remove the transmission pan, change the filter, and replace the fluid in the pan. The major problem here is that the transmission pan only holds 30-40% of the total fluid in the transmission. This would be the same as someone changing just 2 quarts of oil in your 6 quart engine. Again, unacceptable.
When you have us change your transmission fluid, we use Amsoil Signature Series Synthetic Automatic Transmission fluid. We use Amsoil Engine and Transmission Flush to clean the internals of your transmission, then change your filter and all of the fluid in your transmission. Although it is more work, we feel this is the only way to do it right.
