When we perform this service we use our vacuum extraction technique to remove all of the old power steering fluid while simultaneously feeding in the new fluid. This is the only way to do it right.
Interestingly, many vehicles are moving away from hydraulic power steering systems. We are seeing many manufacturers using electric power steering in which case the system is usually maintenance-free.
