For power steering fluid service we use a vacuum extraction technique to remove all of the old power steering fluid. We only use Amsoil Multi-Vehicle Synthetic Power Steering Fluid or Amsoil Signature Series Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid depending on the vehicle. If for some reason neither of these fluids meet the specification for the vehicle in question, we will use the original fluid that came in the vehicle when it was manufactured.

When we perform this service we use our vacuum extraction technique to remove all of the old power steering fluid while simultaneously feeding in the new fluid. This is the only way to do it right.
Interestingly, many vehicles are moving away from hydraulic power steering systems. We are seeing many manufacturers using electric power steering in which case the system is usually maintenance-free.
